Americans Near Record Credit Card Debt

Americans were carrying near-record credit card balances, while elevated grocery and gasoline costs made it harder for households to make progress on monthly balances.
About 175M US consumers had credit cards, and ~60% carried revolving debt instead of paying in full, leaving many exposed to historically high interest costs.
Serious delinquencies were rising, but a Fed bank cautioned that reporting changes kept more charged-off accounts on credit reports, making overall measures look worse.
A recent analysis found ~84% of cardholders who asked for a lower rate got one, suggesting a direct, polite, persistent request can pay off.
Pay as much as possible toward the smallest balance, keep minimum payments on others, then roll that freed-up payment into the next card.
